Feed Me?

U4BOYZ

Got Fish?
I have a fairly new tank....6 months in....and I have a lot of corals. I'm concerned that my corals aren't getting enough good stuff from the water because my tank is new established. Right now they are all healthy. Is there something I can feed them? Some type of supplement until my tank grows more good stuff? Thanks.

The question is what kind of corals do you have?

If they are photosynthetic, all you really need to do is keep the water quality good and up on the water changes to replenish the trace minerals. They will also catch food that floats buy when you feed the fish. I have heard that spot feeding them will make softies and LPS grow faster but dont have much experience doing that.

Interesting.

I have:

brain coral
frogspawn
moon coral
star polup
mushrooms
leather coral
ricordia
cup coral
zannia (sp?)

Thoughts? Thanks.

I feed my corals phytoplankon once a week with a syringe.
It definetly seems to help the softies, as my zoa colonies multiply like crazy (went from 5 polyps to 40 since October) and my leather is 10 times the size it was when I got it in like august. My hammer and acans seem to be getting fleshier but their skeletons are having trouble keeping up. That's something you have to be careful with when feeding LPS. If the flesh overgrows the skeleton, your coral is a gonner.

It certainly isn't neccesary to feed your corals. But it can boost their growth. It can also muck up your water quality though if you fall behind on water changes.

The moon, frogspawn, and brain would all like a meaty snack a couple of times a week.Something like frozen mysis, cyclops,or rotifers would be good for those.
Your other corals will get what they need from the water and light.

IMO those corals get all they need from the lighting and water column. That`s all I have done for 11 yrs now. I did have some orange sun polyps awhile back I had to target feed.
