Emerald crab?

hey everyone

i just got a shipment in today for a cuc i ordered, theres a couple things that i got free and will need helping identifying shortly when i add them to the tank.

I order a emerald crab, i no when stuff is shipped they lose their colours but this crab is red and iunno if its accually an emerald crab. What you guys think. also i didnt want to add him incase he was a predator crab that why its still in the bag.

hmmm doesnt look like an emerald to me but no idea what it is...

That is an emerald crab. They come in all sorts of colors -- red, blue, green, gray, white, black. The red ones are less common than greens, but still not very unusual.

Emerald crabs are actually just green mithrax crabs. Mithrax crabs do come in lots of colors, they just sent you a red one.

do each one vary on what they do, like does one eat hair algae and the other ones dont or is it just the colours that are different about them

Are the reds really less common? I got 4 or 5 as hitchhikers on my rock from TBS.

In my area they are less common. I always see the green ones for sale at my LFS. But hardly ever reds. Just their colors are different, they act the same.

oh wow.. ive never seen a different coloured one... its body doesnt look like an emerald though... what ever im just crazy :)

yea i never seen one besides green b4 and never knew they come in different colours lol. learn something new everyday

Yep emerald crab. I ordered red ones and mine came in pink colored.

in past ive had 4 emerald crabs and the only one that was red tore off a few zoas befor he got a one way trip to my sump lol
