Scientific name - Strombus spp
Family – Strombidae
Common name – Fighting Conch
Max Size – 1.5 in (3.5 cm)
Range - Asia, Papua New Guinea, Tonga
Care Level – Easy
Temperament – Peaceful
Foods and feeding – The snail will roam the aquarium eating algae, but will also eat detritus. It is suggested that you give supplemental feedings of dried seaweed and meaty foods.
Aquarium suitability –
Reef compatibility – Yes
Captive care – This snail is extremely helpful in keeping an aquarium clean by eating detritus. It will also burrow down into the substrate, keeping it oxygenated and turned. It requires a large sand bed, and multiple conches should not be kept unless the aquarium is suitably large. The males are highly territorial. Like all invertebrates it is extremely sensitive to nitrates and copper, and even tiny amounts are lethal to them.
