canister filter = nitrates?

I have a Eheim Canister filter and im looking to get rid of it soon. Can i remove it now since i have an in-tank skimmer?

as long as you have plenty of rock so that all the bioload is not being managed by the filter alone. so if you have plenty of rock than take it off if you want

would this be enough rock? the two highest rocks were taken out of my tank for probably 2 weeks though.

you want at least 1 pound per gallon and for a reef shoot for closer towards 2lbs per gal.

I would add some more rock if it were my tank. Also be careful removing something you have been continuously using. It can create a crash in your tank. I would slowly cut back the use of the canister a little each day once you have everything else in place.

i think i might have 50 lbs of rock

I like having at least 2 lbs per gallon myself.

ahh i think id better leave it then because i already have life inside. yea im adding more rock slowly. probably 5 lbs of rock a week.
