I know it is off topic but, what exactly is a mantis shrimp if not a shrimp?
they're their own classification, known as stomatapods. They're a crustacean just like shrimp and crabs, but in a different family.
I had a marine biologist tell me they would be closest to things like prawns, but not that close of a relationship. Not sure on how true that is, but that's his info.
