Another Sump Build Question

I've watched this video about 10x now.

at 2:28 into the video he explains how to set up the sump. From right to left when you're looking at the front of the sump it goes.

1. Live Rock
2. Skimmer
3. Return Pump.

I just ran across a thread on here that goes.

1. Skimmer
2. Live Rock
3. Return Pump.


Is either design better than the other. I just siliconed my partitions in tonight, I have room to place it in either order, so not that big of a deal....Again, what's better or are they the same?

There probably isn't any difference, except with the skimmer next to the pump there is a chance (small 1) that some microbubbles from the skimmer can make it thru the baffles and into the display.

+1capt. I'd stick with the second design so that the skimmer and return are separated for bubbles and also your pods coming from the fuge section will be fed directly into the display instead if into the skimmer.

What do you guys think about how high his baffles are? Seems really close to the top to me from others I've seen.

The height is just fine. There is no reason for them to be lower other than to allow for room for your returns to drain but his 2nd baffle is only 9".

I see so the return pump would be after the bubble trap in the last section.

I watched that same video also. That's what we went by to build ours. I have my skimmer first.
