Alex's 75 gal

You really need to spot feed it. I use a turkey baster. With the goni, you can cut off the bottom of a soda bottle and put the bottle over the goni. Squirt the cyclopeeze into the top of the bottle and put the cap on. This will give the goni plenty of time to feed, and keep greedy fish and shrimp away while it's eating.

Thanks biff, I'll try that.

On closer inspection, I'm starting to think it mya be alveopora...looks more like 12 tentacles than 24, but it will be hard to say for sure until it recovers a bit and really extends.

Cropped a pic, maybe someone can help me with the positive ID - leaning more towards goniopora now.

So, got my new shipment of corals in yesterday a day late from FedEx....no acan, as promised, so I'm a little peeved about that, especially since the company my LFS hooked me up with isn't calling me back. For $120, I still got a pretty good deal - about 7 15+ polyp zoa heads and a clump of daisy polyps. But, since FedEx refunded the shipping money and no acans, I'd still like some money off.

I took a few pics of the brighter ones (the blues don't show up too well during the evening actinics), so enjoy....

Clump of violet ones on the right side just above the orange micromusa:

Oh, and I identified my mystery brainish dome coral - it's a Siderastrea Radians! It's coloring up a bit under the LEDs and has some gold-yellow coloring to it...

Ahhh, thanks - what makes you say alveopora instead of gonio? Mine's been feeding of cyclopeeze so I'm hoping it last - it's aquacultured so hopefully that will help.

I originally thought I saw 12 tentacles per polyp,I believe I see 24 now.I think my eyes hurt.

12-aveo
24-goni

Zoas and urchin look fantastic!

yeah that's why I thought goni too.

Thanks Sarah, I think they look nice and vibrant. I got a refund on the missing acan, so I might try to find one at the lfs tomorrow.

Sorry I missed this thread until now.

Alex,
WOW!! :bounce:

Your tank looks totally AWESOME man. Those new blue zoas are wicked and I like that little micro frag near the front glass.

Thanks Chris! It's finally starting to come together. I'm sad that I'm going to have to take it down this fall for a deployment. Not sure what I'll do with it all...

The LEDs and profilux controller are doing their part and everything is thriving. I still wish I had a sump and an algae scrubber, but that will have to come with the next one.

Yeah, the blasto is amazing, when I got it, it was kind of dullish orange, and it's colored up like crazy. It's also growing pretty fast, but I'm not sure if it's going to spread off of the frag piece and onto the rock...I have the plug sort of laying down on the rock, and I was hoping the coral would grow down onto it. I'm always frustrated finding a natural way to get a frag plug into the rock.

You know we love the pics!! Without pics - it never happened.

Only way I ever got an LPS to attach to a rock on it's own was to trim the plug down to nuthin' or even pop the frag off the plug. Then epoxy the skeleton to a rock with the least amount of glue that you can possibly use to secure it. I noticed it takes longer for frags to grow and spread out when they have to grow up and around a big globber of glue to get to the rock around the edges. My theory is the sooner it can grow out of the glue and actually attach itself (naturally) to the rock formation - the better off the frag will be. As long as it's only held on with glue - it's subject to falling off at anytime.

I'll babysit those LPS corals for ya, anytime. :bounce: You can have 'em back when you return to the states.

Or you could frag anything you want to keep. Frag them now. Send the frags out to friends for growing and safekeeping. When you have to ship out - sell the mother colonies for the cash. When you get back -- call in your frags and start reefing again.

Any tips on how I'd get the blasto off of the frag without hurting it?

I wish I had some people here to babysit my corals; there's one guy at work who has a saltwater tank who offered to watch all my stuff, but he's one of those people who doesn't do water changes has crappy lighting and thinks he can grow SPS....not a trustworthy candidate.

That is kind of my plan...I frag my corals ALL the time as backups, so I'm def starting to prep that....I have a nice mother colony of about 15 armor of god polyps so that should be worth something. The trick is finding someone qualified to watch them! I'd def consider shipping them out to you, let you frag the hell out of them for a year, and then I'd pay to ship 'em back if you're interested around then!

When I get back, it's MAJOR upgrade time. Long time to plan, but my plans:
150 gallon long, hopefully starfire and maybe rimless.
Lagoon themed (type corals/fish) tank - was thinking two islands on each far side, then an open, sandy area with a couple of small rock islands.
Additional LED lamp over the top to cover the length
Sump - either under the tank, or even better, plumbed into the basement
Algae Scrubber & powerful skimmer
Mangrove refuge

I really like the elos - usa complete systems, but a put pricey.
