I have used LED's several times for my tanks be sure to coat the wires with a water proof caulk or glue of sorts they will eventually corrode if you don't. (sorry my spelling is horrible)

can't start a fire, the heat produced by the fluorescent is lesser than any other light bulbs


wanna make a bet on that. i just used a laser temp and one of my florescent bulbs was 104 degrees now cover that in paint and i bet the temp will increase by at least double.

Interesting, all the fluorescentic tubes are designed only to operate within the -40 and +80 celsius temperature range.
 
Yes, that means that the lights will work if it is that temperature in the room. That is not the temperature that the bulbs get.
