Welcome back to LivingReefs.com!

You might notice things looking a little differently around here. I've made a few small updates to the logo to make it more fresh and modern. I've also re-organized the community so we can start fresh, focusing on what matters: the reef.

Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or you’re just finding us today, we’re glad you're here. All of the rich history of this site has been preserved in our Living Reefs Archive, but now we're building a place for our future.

Action Item: Please reply to this thread and introduce yourself! Tell us how long you’ve been reefing and what you’re currently working on. Let's get the conversation started!

I hope these threads are eventually reaching y'all! I'm looking forward to seeing some old faces return to this site, as well as new faces popping in.

I wanted to add a quick update to explain where Living Reefs is heading next.

Preserving The Past, Building The Future

Over the coming months, I’ll be reading through some of the classic articles and discussions that made this site special in the first place. Those original posts will remain fully preserved in the Living Reefs Archive, exactly as they were written. In some cases, I’ll be adding new threads that look at those topics from a modern (2026) perspective.

A few important notes about these updates:
  • They are not rewrites or corrections of the original content.
  • They’re written from a beginner perspective. I'm no expert!
  • The goal is to add context, current discussion, and fresh links. I'm not trying to replace hard-earned experience.
  • Community input is encouraged, especially from long-time reefers!

I'm trying to re-connect some of this great knowledge to today's reef-keepers, rather than trying to "modernize" the hobby and throw all that experience in the trash.

If you’re new here, this is a great time to jump in. If you’ve been reefing for years, your experience is incredibly valuable. Please don’t hesitate to chime in when something looks familiar (or debatable).

Founding Member Build Threads

To help kick things off, I’m adding a “Founding Member” banner for the first 20 members who start a new build thread on the site.

This isn’t about having the biggest or most advanced system. New tanks, upgrades, restarts, and even planning threads all count. The idea is simply to recognize the members who help seed the next chapter of Living Reefs with active builds and ongoing discussion.

Once the first 20 build threads are posted, the Founding Member banner will be locked in for those accounts.

If you’ve been thinking about starting a build thread, or just want to help revive this once booming community, now’s a perfect time.

Join The Conversation

And if you haven’t yet, please reply and introduce yourself.

Let us know:
  • How long you’ve been reefing
  • What kind of system you’re running (or planning)
  • What brought you back — or what brought you here for the first time

Let's build this next chapter together, one conversation at a time.

Welcome back to LivingReefs.com! 🐠
