I'm just curious, why do you think they are useless? I am not for or against them, the guy I bought my tank from on craigslist had one so I have been using it for about a year.. not sure what to think about it.

Because they UV light isnt strong enough to actually kill any parasite, what it does kill is algae spores, bacteria (good and bad). There are many better ways to keep algae from being an issue, and IMO the most successful reefs are the ones with plenty of good bacteria, so you dont want to go off killing your bacteria indiscriminately.
Also people tend to use it as a crutch when they should be taking better care of their fish in the first place.

it work for me when i had my 125 g reef tank..it help with ick...in two to 3 day my fish will be clear of ick...and never again did i lost a fish to ick..i know some people dont like uv lights.. but they work for me i had a corallife uv...if i have have the money i would buy one.
