Sump/Filtration

Do you guys/girls use an actual filtration system in your sump? My LFS said that I would be fine just using the foam pad between the chambers in the sump and puting the carbon media between the foam. Is this ok? Or should I put my actual filter system in my sump?

I'd put your filter in the sump. The more filtration the better. Even better if you have a skimmer.

I do have a skimmer, the thing is my filter is real big and will have a tough time fittting it down there. Do you think I should buy a smaller filter and put it down there?

Isn't your sump already a filter.
What kind of filter are you trying to put down there?HOB?canister?I think you should be fine the way way you describe it.In my opinion the live rock is the main filter in a reef tank.
