RO/DI Unit

I just bought an RO/DI unit from bulk reef supply and have let it run for an hour. It seems like a HUGE amount of water is coming out of the tube that is black or the garbage water going right down the drain.

It really bothers me that this much water is being wasted! Do any of you use RODI units and do you reuse that water for anything else? I was thinking I could water my plants with it??

You will get about 3gallons of waste water to 1 gallon of usable RO/DI. Its just how they work.

You could try to recycle it somewhere, it shouldnt really hurt house plants.

You arent suppose to drink it, but its perfectly safe for watering plants and stuff.

Some people run that line to their washing machine, and use it to wash their clothes. You can get higher efficiency units that don't produce a lot of waste, but they are much more expensive than regular RODI units.

I don't know much about anything but I think if you have low water pressure going into the rodi the less efficient it will be

Yeah i got the cheapest one but its still very solid and nice, I just hate wasting water.

I filled up 2 buckets of water and poured into my rain barrel outside which is connected to the drip line for my garden..... so not wasted!!
