Also starting out I figure I will need a refractometer and would like your opinions on the ones I'm considering.

The less expensive one looks just fine to me.

Yep, I'd get the cheaper one. Be sure to buy some calibration fluid (you can get it on Ebay for about $4). Once it's calibrated, the cheap refractometer will be no different than a more expensive one.

I got that cheaper refractometer that you linked to,except I paid a whole lot more for it.
