Raise my light?

I have my T5 fixture just setting on the top of my tank. Should I have it maybe suspended from the ceiling, off of the top of the tank? I do have a canopy for my tank but can't use it right now due to having my skimmer on the side of the tank so if I should, I can have the light hanging from the ceiling just a bit. It's a 216 watt light on a 75 gallon tank if that info is needed.

I just noticed that salt buildup gets onto the screen on the lights and I clean it often.

The lights being that close won't hurt anything as far as heat is concerned. However, you will be fighting salt creep like crazy. If you have, or can find the legs for the fixture it would be best to put them on.

I have put corals under my 150 watt MH and watched the corals wither and die --even after I moved them up gradaully on the rock. Corals can get too much light although this is less likely with T5s.
