Reefing newb
i did my regular water change in my 125 gl on Sunday and when i restarted the pumps and the sump pump return ,i got a clump of pink slime that came out of the return tube. the tank is a year old and all the parameters are normal. next time i will place a small net in front off the return pipe to try and catch this stuff, but does anyone know what this could be? i did manage to grab most of it with my hand. i have a reef octypus protein skimmer/ phosphate and carbon reactor, UV sterilizer/ filter sock.everything is working beautifully but this slime was a surprise.

Crap builds up in pipes during use. SOmetimes, when the power turns back on, the initial surge of water dislodges this crud. Catching it in a net sounds like a good idea.

Disconnecting the tubes routinely and scrubbing the interior with a brush helps keep build up to a minimal.
