New Pump?

My ViaAqua 1800 keeps breaking on me (it's only about 6 months old). I'm looking for a new in-sump pump that pumps roughly 480gph to replace the ViaAqua. Any brand recommendations?

Also, I know ViaAqua pumps are cheap; do they typically just stop running within a few months like this, or is my scenario rare?

You can check out Mag-drives or Eheim pumps. You're going to pay more for them but they should last much much longer.

I agree. I have used MagDrives and Eheims. My MagDrive has been going strong for 5+ years now, and my Eheim is something like 8 years. They run 24/7. Rio HyperFlows are cheaper, but also pretty good in my experience.

I would recommend Quiet One pumps, but I've had some bad luck with them lately. :(
