Is Galvanized Steel safe?

Short answer. No.

Long answer. Galvanizing is a chemical process that puts a layer of Zinc over the steel.

The zinc is more reactive than the steel, so it will be turned into Zinc Oxide. I am not sure if I would want a bunch of zinc or zincoxide floating around in my reef. Also, after a while, all the zinc will be consumed and will start rusting the steel underneath. IMO, it wouldnt last long and might be harmfull to the inhabitants.

It was in your tank? Ya, not a good idea.
Acrylic would be a much better idea if you are trying to divide the space or something.
