Ich

SeaBee

Ha Ha Thats Funny!
I have no hospital tank, I have a small few fish in a new reef set up and need to put it together quick. I was going to get a 10 gal. and a heater and do it in the am. What is the best med for this crap? I am new to salt, but long time with fresh. Coral beauty, 2 small clowns, 3 green chromies. Thanks in advance peeps.:sfish:

Copper is your best bet for ich, but six fish in a 10 gallon quarantine tank is pushing it. Hyposalinity is also an effective treatment.

Are the fish still eating? Usually ich is caused by stress in fish. What could be stressing them? How new is the tank? If the tank was not properly cycled, having 6 fish in there would certainly be stressful.

If they are still eating, you can try to let them fight it off themselves. Add garlic extract to their foods.

I gave them the extract and they didnt touch the food. I have since lost 2 fish and am pulling whats left of my hair out watching them get covered in this stuff. Going today at lunch to start the hospital tank. How long do I keep the fish in here and how long do I medicate? Thank you for the reply.

Ok, went to the fish store today, long talk with the owner, I have known him over 20 yrs. He suggested a reef-safe treatment, Microbe Lift Herbtana, and to treat the whole tank. So thats what I am doing right now, trying to save the coral beauty that is now lying on his side resting. He also told me to cut the white light down in time to let the fish rest. I also got a uv sterilizer, and I am wanting to know what you all think of the light. Should I use it with live rock and corals? Do I run it only part of the day? Well, I hope the fish lives. Thanks.

I wish you luck with the reef safe med. I tried the kordel ich attack one on my coral beauty didnt work for me or him.

Well the ich spots fell off of him, but now I cant find him, the coral beauty that is. The other fish are acting better and looking hungry. Will report back later. I am in the process of installing the uv lamp. The tank is 2 months old. Thanks all.

ANother thing you can do is get Spectrum Thera+A by new life. It has garlic in it and that helps the fish fight off ich. Getting rid of ich isn't imposible. I have done it twice but the other time I failed at it.

Ok, uv light is on, skimmer is sucking major crap out. Going to run the uv for like 10 min, the meds says to not use it right now, but I wanted to zap some critters for a while...Coral beauty has passed, I honestly am surprised he made it through the night. So now I just wait and hope the others dont get it real bad. Thanks.
