Hermit crabs ???

i just recently put algae eater hermit crabs in my salt water tank. i noticed that my crabs shells are starting to turn white. i just added more live rock into the tank. is the white spots a sign of them dieing?

It may just be something growing on the shell, do you have a picture? I've got snails with hair algae growing on them, looks like they're carrying around a piece of sod

I've seen what your describing on many of my snails when I first bought them. Most of the snails I bought had coralline algae growing on them. I was under the impression it was die off on the snails shells. After a few weeks none of my snails have white anymore all purple and green..:mrgreen:
