HELP! I have given advice on here about how to stop a skimmer from over reacting, but geeze...mine has gone nuts!

I was working on the sump. I'm trying to add bag filters (and having poor luck at the moment!) and I accidentally hit the air intake with the drain hose output. It sucked up a ton of water through that little baffle/silencer thing. Now it is over reacting like crazy. I have:

Removed the whole skimmer from the sump.
Removed the silencer and blew the air out of it.
Cleaned the whole unit.
Checked it over real well.
Placed it in much shallower depths.
Turned it down.
Turned it up.

And it is still over reacting like crazy. Any ideas how how to fix this situation?
Its a eshopps 150 for what its worth.

When my skimmer goes crazy I typically just turn it off for 30 minutes to an hour. Typically its fine when I start it back up. The one exception was Kent Marine calcium which took 12 hours or so.

I shut it down as suggested. About 45 minutes. It was still over reacting but I was able to raise is up 2" and it made it through the night.

This morning I put it back down to the normal depth and though it is still over reacting slightly, I am able to control it with varying the flow. Its almost like it is breaking in again. Very odd. I'm not sure what is inside those silencers, but they don't appear to like water too much!

Okay, got some usefull information from the LFS today. It seems that when ever a new sock is added, skimmers can over react. Something to do with a coating on the sock or simply a reaction between the sock and saltwater.

This makes complete sense! It started over reacting when I put the first sock in. It calmed down after the sock was there for a few hours. Then I changed the sock and it over reacted again. I'll turn it back on later and see if it works. Hard to believe it could be so simple!
