For my 12 gallon tank would halogen lighting get the job done for corals that need moderate lighting?

hqi is the best lighting you can get how many watts
and how tall is it the tank that is

my tank is only 15 inches tall

metal halide and ummm at least 150 watts for most coral
and medium light would be 72
low 36

but what i was asking was if I could just buy some halogen ligthing from like home depot or something that was high wattage

A hologen light will not support life that need light to live.

Would LED work?

anything else

I need something for coral growth.

There are only 3 types of lighting that you can keep corals under.
With anything else your getting into a whole nother spectrum which will only cause algae and starve your corals.

I would suggest a T5 setup
You should be able to find a nice one that size Fairly cheap,

In a Small tank a MH light May cause a Real heat problem,

If you dont have alot of money try craigslist, ebay, or reefcentral.com for a used light. There are plenty out there. Good luck and let us know what you come up with.
