Ground probe

imdaring

love my reef
getting ready to set up the new tank should I add a ground probe :shocking: and not sure I understand how they work what do I ground it to???? :12:

you can do a couple things you can pllt out an outlet and ground it to the ground on the outlet or you can run it through the floor and connect the wire to a cold water line.

Ummm I didn't understand a thing he said!

Yes, use a grounding probe. They are super cheap, and they can save your tank.

+ 1 biff, $15.00 @ lfs you really do need to add one to your tank to get rid of stray eletrical currents from powerheads and such and they are self explaing.

If you use a grounding probe, make sure it's plugged into a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter). If it's not plugged into a GFCI, your tank is more dangerous to you than without the grounding probe since YOU will be the new "ground" to any stray voltage.
Ground probe + stray voltage + no GFCI = electrocution.
Ground probe + stray voltage + GFCI = tripped breaker.
