as most of you know if you have been keeping up with my tank build (shameless plug coming) Dustins first tank, then you would know that my plans are for a tang dominated tank so with that in mind and knowing all tangs love there algae would getting a goby be inadvisable or could i still have a goby.

Gobies don't feed on algae.Maybe you were thing of blennies.Either case,both of them will be fine with the tangs.

i was thinking of the ones that sift sand. for some reason i thought they ate the algae off the sand bed

No,they eat the fauna(worms,pods) that lives in the sandbed.

One goby. More than one goby probably won't get along with each other and will fight to the death. A goby would get along fine with the tangs.
