My wife just bought a 20g established tank as is from the LFS. it came with LR, some type of Xenia coral, and a double bio-wheel filter. I made sure to get new filter pads, heater and thermometer. I know that the canister type filters are known to be nitrate factories, but I plan on cleaning and changing the filter pads once a month.

Does anyone know of a decent cost effective skimmer for this size tank? There are no fish in it yet, and thinking of getting a clown and some invertebrates soon.
Thanks

in reality you dont need one in sucha small tank , but if you really want one i would recomment the slim skim, for the price you cant beat it, quality and cost effective in one[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Hydor-USA-HYDOR-PROTEIN-SKIMMER/dp/B004MYKADM]Amazon.com: Protein Skimmers Slim Skim Nano: Pet Supplies[/ame] some may recommend better ones , but i can personnaly speak for this skimmer ( i bought the slim skim regular) and the first day after 4 hours that baby was pulling black stuff out my tank , if you look on amazon you may find it cheaper than retail, but like i said at first, you dont really need a skimmer for a 20 or 29 for that matter, regular water changes should be suffice

+1 everybody, those are both great skimmer from what i hear. also your going to have to clean the canister more than once a month to prevent detrutus
