Cycling with a freshwater filter.

I got to thinking at work today, about the cycling of my tank. Now I have 2 mature freshwater setups. Would it be feasible to take some of the filter medium out of one of those tanks and use it to help the bacteria in my SW tank, or am I just more likely to add unwanted pests to my SW tank? If it is possible should I clean the filter medium first and if so in fresh or saltwater.

Thanks in advance.

Simon.

The short answer is no. The bacteria that lives in SW is not the same as what lives in FW and you would be alot more likely to just add plant matter and fish waste to the tank which will eventually just give you more nitrates. There are products that you can buy for SW to help with the cycle but your best bet is to get good LR and time.
