Clean my sump

So I have noticed that my sump is nasty. I wana clean it out. Should I just pull it and spray it down with hot water? Also, I need to clean my protein skimmer and pumps. What do you guys use? I have heard white vinegar and water 1:1? thoughts?

Also, I just have a big open tank right now. At some point (when I get more money to drop into the tank) I want to do a refugium but right now it's just a tank that has my skimmer in it. Should I put some dead rock in there to add to my bio filtration?

If the sump has nothing in it then that would work. The vinegar solution is great for cleaning power heads, skimmer all that stuff. After you clean it up You could add some baffles and make the fuge you where talking about. If not then heck yes add some live rock in there. I have snails and hermits in my sump/ fuge to clean as we go so to speak..
