Chalices

My brother bought me a chalice the other day as an early Christmas gift. Do chalices need any special treatment like spot feeding? Thanks.

No more care than other LPS. I am not sure that they accept food, but I do know that they tend to be slow growers.

I don't feed mine..I believe they're night feeders..If you choose to I believe you can feed them something like cyclopeeze..I don't feed mine. They're fairly easy, mine do better in med light, med flow....and they're sloooooooww growers.

Some of my chalices put tentacles out at night, others never do. I feed the ones that have tentacles, and they greedily eat meaty foods like mysis and brine.

But yeah, they grow SOOOO SLOOOOOW. Even slower than a lot of SPS, IMO. I bought a 1" x 1" frag of Tyree blue chalice probably about 6+ months ago. It has maybe doubled in size in that time period!

Well you don't have to call him names. He's very sensitive, if he hears you talking about him he may not grow again for months..

Mine doesnt put out any tenticals. I dont feed it and its growing slowly. They are insanely beautiful pieces tho thats why i bought one. Good luck with yours...you got a picture of it?:Cheers:

That looks similar to two chalice frags I've got, mine put out pretty long tenticals, and they've been pretty quick growers as far as chalices go. Mine started out about smaller then 1/2 the size of the frags plug and over grew the whole plug in less then two months.

Jarock said that he had a similar chalice too that also put out long tentacles, but I haven't seen any tentacles on my frag yet...

I hope you're right that it's a quick grower though! :mrgreen:

I have that same type of chalice myself, and that's one of mine that doesn't put out tentacles. It's also one that hasn't grown one bit since I got it!! :grumble:
