Would it be ok to run a small carbon filter in my 75 gallon? It's just a small filter I got laying around and I would like to have something helping to clear my water up. I know I would have to clean it out but how often?

I use carbon filter with a sponge and cheato algae and clean it every Sunday

You can definitly run a carbon filter a few days of the month to "polish" the water.

y do you have to clean carbon everyday? Sorry I am new to salt water and this is the first time I have ever heard of that.

You dont have to clean the filter media everyday, but it should be cleaned every two or three days. Detritus gets trapped in there, rots and then release the nitrates back into the water column.

Some Marine biologists have theroized that toxic heavy metals build up in tanks and are responsible for mysterious fish deaths. True or not, carbon can filter out a lot of toxins in your water. I run it all the time. Rinse carbon well before use.
