bleeding gills

Just added an auriga butterfly a month ago and about a week ago his gills look like they are bleeding. He's still eating fine and swimming good.

Red gills is usually a sign of ammonia poisoning. Have you tested all your parameters?

What have you tested for?

You should test for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and alkalinity. Those are the basics (along with salinity and temperature) that can impact your livestock most severely if something is off.

I agree that ammonia poisoning is the cause for red or bleeding gills. I would say 33% PWC`s are a must.
