Birdsnest

What is the proper way to tell if your birdsnest is dead? I am not seeing any of it's green 'spores'

If I don't see any green show up in a week or so, should I just toss this lil' frag?

EDIT: I just saw that they are very intolerant of nitrates which I do have a little bit atm. Also, I am going to place him up closer to the light as he is on the bottom atm.

If it is white, then it's dead. If it still has color, then it's not dead.
