What's the scoop on using baking soda to raise ph levels? I'm using Kent marine superbugger-dKH and was wondering if baking soda would do the job just as well and cheaper?
Baking soda is more effective at raising alkalinity than pH. It will change your alkalinity substantially while only making small changes in your pH. And then your pH will be back down again in a matter of hours. If you use baking soda to maintain pH, I suspect that it would only be a matter of time before you overdosed your alk levels.
