    Sump tank question

Not a big fan of the bioballs but you at least want them submerged if you are using them. You also want the sump level in a range that can hold your main tank drainage during shut down or power outage.

    Cleaning an old tank

+1 white vinegar is used regularly in the hobby even in carbon dosing. I would stay away from the bleach.

How's my aquascape looking so far?

It looks good to me. You want to have natural hiding places for your critters, it is also ideal to be able to get flow through your rocks so detritus doesn't build up in an area, have places you can put corals and it needs to be pleasing to your eye since you will spend the most time looking at it;)

    Bioload and tank inhabitants?

Hi and welcome to Living Reefs! Generally, only fish are calculated towards the bioload. The amount of fish you can successfully keep is a little tricky and depends on a lot of variables. Things like: reef keeping experience, filtration (biological and mechanical), water quality, etc... I would...

    Tiny (yet healthy) Nem

Tell me more about your tank. Water parameters, lighting, are you feeding the nems (if so what are you feeding them)?

May Photo of the Month - Full tank shots

I have no tanks up at this time. This is an old shot of 150g system when I first started keeping corals back in 2007.

    Anemone foot loss

Hi Branden, Please post a pic of your anemone. If you cut the foot off it is more than likely going to die. Generally, you want to cut the power head off and let it work its way out on its own. What kind of anemone is it? It was probably dyed the color yellow unless you have some kind of...

    Unknown "thing" on live rock.

It looks a lot like colonial hydroids but hard to tell with that pic. I really hope it isn't those. Look them up and see what you think.

best fish choice for reef tank

Just be careful with any dwarf angel because they can be coral nippers. They are beautiful fish.

    Unknown Coral

Star Polyps and they will spread like crazy. They are pretty but I like to isolate them on a lone rock so they can't spread to connecting rocks.

    Little help...

    +1 I'm thinking sponges too.

    Scopas Tang

I understand your concerns and I can assure you if I thought it was an issue I would not of suggested it. My tank was full of coral too. Absolutely no issues. Good luck with the scopas and however you decide to catch him.

New to the hobby and pumped.

Hi and welcome to Living Reefs! You are the proud owner of some button polyps. They will spread on your live rock and come in a multitude of beautiful colors.

    Scopas Tang

I had a lemonpeel angelfish I couldn't catch. So I drained the tank, scooped it out and refilled the tank. It didn't take long and nothing in the tank was hurt. Things like a clam, anemones, SPS, LPS as well as other fish. It only took about 20 minutes and I didn't have to touch my rock. I...

    New Tank Cycle

Hi Dave and welcome to Living Reefs!! What kind of test kit are you using. Sometimes API will give you false positive readings. It is a little more difficult to notice a substantial cycle when you use cured live rock. Looking at your numbers it appears you had a cycle. Now I believe you are...

    Help

How did you acclimate it? Stars are pretty sensitive to changes in water parameters. Have you tried feeding it? They are scavengers and meat eaters. They are also coral eaters.
