Adding sump to 28g nano

Reefing newb
I will be adding a sump to a 28g JBJ nano and have a few ideas to throw out. The tank is all ready up and running so I do not want to take a chance to drill the back for the overflow. I will be using a Eshopps-300 for the HOB overflow. Jere is a photo, I swiped from another site, of the back of the tank showing the configuration of the baffles. If I remove the filter box from the center partition, is there any reason why I can`t use that area as the internal box of the overflow. The return line will be split and go into the outer partitions where the return pumps are. This way, the wave maker can still be utilized. The return water flow will probably be adjusted by a ball value, and maybe a couple of holes be drilled into the back wall of the tank by the return jets to assure no overflows. Any input will be appreciated.

Im sorry for not understanding, these are all in one systems? Why would you throw so much money into a system that is not needed? Theses were built for this reason and doesnt give you any room for bigger creatures in your dt. By all means, its your money, but the result is nothing that cant be done by frequent w/c's. Good luck my friend and keep it simple. :-)

I don't see why you couldn't use the chamber as the inside of the overflow... but I'm terrible with the mechanics stuff. Maybe PM fastrd and ask him.

I would think if you got rid of the return pumps in the chambers and just used a U tuve from the current overflow over to the overflow box side with the down pipe it would work just the same as having an overflow box. just use the curent overflow as the tank side of the box and maybe even get a longer u tube for that side.

I am trying to duplicate the system and results of a friend of mine. He has gotten tremendous results by adding a sump to his nano. I am aware of the conflicting opinions on the benefits of a sump in a reef setup. I have most of the equipment on hand from a previous fish only tank from years ago so cost will be minimal. In response to civicdemon, I want to keep the return pumps because they are hooked up to a wave generator which gives great water movement in the tank. Thanks

What were the results? What are you gaining? What sized sump are you going run? Are you installing a fug? You can clip the backs out on them and have your fug there.
