Any idea what this might be

Live rock 5 years old and someone broke it open and found this creature. Any idea what it might be?

It looks like a type of brittle star

It looks like a brittle starfish to me.

That IS a brittle star.He's a good guy.

Congrats. It's an excellent cleaner and will love to be hand-fed by it's caretaker.

It s mysterious and ookie, all together spooky!!! Happy halloween!!! How did he live in the rock for 5 yrs and you never saw it? Thats freaky.

We wanted a salt water tank and where looking for some live rock. We liked the rock but the guy said that it had been with them since they opened the store 5 years ago. After about 20 minutes he came up to us and said he would sell the rock for 10.00 so we took it. We did see just the tenticals outside the rock but never the whole "Brittle Star". We believe that it may have grown so large that he could not get out of the rock because he was never seen outside. When the rock broke open, by accident, I was just amazed of his size. Now he is living in a larger tank we just setup and its alot of fun just watching him.

Kinda make you think about what else might be in the rock dont it.:D
