Water in Protein Skimmer Cup

Hi,

Latley there has been water seeping into my protein skimmer cup. Yesterday we cleaned the airhose took the skimmer out of the sump & cleaned it. Isn't the black plastic band holding the 0 ring supposed to screw off the cylinder? We could not screw it off couldn't get a good look at the 0 ring .. Isn't a damaged 0 ring a cause for water in the cup of Protein Skimmer?

If you are referring to the waste cup, then the skimmer is over reacting. Try turning it down or lifting it up a little. (not as deep in the water if its an in sump type.)

Yes , its in the sump. The cyllinder is attached to the whole Turbo-Venturi Set on suction cups attached to the bottom of the sump. So you mean to lift that part up out of the water more? Also, if I turn down the airhose how do I know if its enough? I usually turn it up until I see bubles coming up from the inside of the cup. I just cleaned the whole thing a few minutes ago.

Yes, either turn it down or raise the whole unit up. It sounds like its too deep in the water to work. You should adjust it to where the bubbles are coming up to the BOTTOM of the cup. As the proteins rise, the bubbles will get larger and will foam over the top on the cup. You should only be emptying the cup every other day or more.
