Trying to Save my corals

Come from weekend at the beach and the Halogen lights on my fuge fell off onto the floor. Thank god they didn't burn my house down. Without light, cheato stops eating trates. Also, I had moved my cheapo skimmer to my other tank. Next thing I know my corals are dying! Some of my plate coral's tentacles look like they melted and there is a slight bleaching. Got the skimmer back in, the fuge light on 12 hours a day and did a 40% water change this morning.

I think that they should be fine. Since it was only for a weekend without light, and Im assuming you werent feeding, there shouldnt be much nitrate build up in the two days. I think once the fuge gets back working, the trates will go down. And the corals come back

Hope everything works out

I forgot to mention I did test Nitrates yesterday and they were up ever so slightly (approx 2 or 3 ppm) but I'm thinking the plate corals are super sensitve to trates. I've heard more than one hobbyists say they can't keep them alive.

hopefully they will pull out of it. The light being out for a few days wouldn't be what caused them to start to die though. there are storms that roll throught the ocean for weeks, with no sun.

sorry if I wasn't clear. The fuge light went out and the chaeto stoppeed eating trates.

While fixing the lights I hit the heater control and the temp dropped 4 F! And now I see the Ph is down to 7.8.

3 small stressors add up to one big one I fear.

Good luck with everything. I am still slowly recovering from removing a fuge cuz the power went out and it flooded back in march. Hair algea went out the roof and my clowns died.

Okay, he's making a comeback, getting a little color and extending his tentacles but now my Yellow Clown Goby loves to sit on him. He started doing it when the coral had his tentacles withdrawn --but now even though the corals have extended, the the goby still sits on the coral. Sometimes he nibbles on the coral but it looks like he's eating something black. weird!
