Today it seems drama is all over the off-topic section. People just having a bad day (Tanked:grumble:, Yote:grumble:, Biff:grumble:, etc).

This is the place to come to vent and get support from your fellow reefers!

    Who's having a bad day?

I'm having a bad day. My son is sick again. He's 6yrs old. He was premature about 8 weeks, but he's healthy as a horse and can run and run and run all day long with no problems. But if he gets sick, it always hits his lungs and he ends up with RSV or pneumonia.

In Feb 2007 he was in ICU at the Childrens Hospital for about 2 weeks. They almost induced a coma and put him on a ventilator. He was so worn out from being sick and coughing - he couldn't breath enough to keep his O2 saturation levels over 70% (doctors want to see it over 90%). His little heart was racing to spread what little O2 he had around in his body. He ended up finding a reserve somewhere in those 48 little pounds and he pulled through it without a ventilator.

We took him to the doctor yesterday over this cold and they called the life flight ambulance again and transported him to Childrens Hospital. He's on 100% O2 and barely breathing on his own. He's got pneumonia again. No talk of a ventilator yet.

Thanks. I'm sure he'll be fine in a couple days. It just sucks for him. He's going to miss the field trip tomorrow and the holiday party at school on Friday. It's stressful - and the holiday season is upon us - and we're working on a smaller budget these days - and if he misses more than 10 days of school we get a letter from the county asking for an explanation. I wonder if he'll grow out of it or if this will get worse as he grows..... Hopefully he grows out of this and doesn't develop asthma or some weird lung disorder.

Even if you know he's going to be fine, I'm sorry you all have to go through it. I hope he's all well and back at home to enjoy the holiday.

Sorry to hear, RC :( Hopefully he'll grow out of it. My youngest gets asthma, but only when he's got a respiratory infection, which is common in kids, but most grow out of it. So hopefully that's the case with your son. Worse case, maybe the county will let him take some summer school if it's that bad, or maybe they'll provide a tutor for your kid over the summer if it's a huge issue. At that age, they should give more room for legitimate illnesses and provide extra help. It's not like he's playing hooky!

Can you get a nebulizer for your home, too?

AWW MAN,I hate to hear about you boy being sick Rc.Its bad enough when an adults sick, but its 3 times worse for kids.

My oldest son had asthma. But he finally out grew it.Most of the time, kids will grow out of it and not have any problems later on.
We used to keep a humidifer in my boys room, which seemed to help him.

Thanks guys. He's doing very well today. Couple hundred ML of antibiotics and some O2 and he's bouncing back like a champ. I'll bet they let him come home this weekend. They're having a nebulizer delivered on Friday.

Glad your boys getting better, rc.
On monday, I went out to get the truck warmed up before work, and saw a river going down my driveway. Broken water main UNDER the driveway. I didn't want to bust up the concrete, so I spent all day reaching through a 6" hole, digging a foot of mud out by hands and replacing the 1" pvc T that broke. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the pipes were only glued 1/8" into the slip on both sides by the homebuilder, instead of 1 full inch. Talk about PISSED!!!! It took just over 4 years for street pressure to finally bust it. And who knows how long it had been leaking prior to busting wide open! GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Here's the d'oh!--after reconnecting all this and opened up the main, no water came to the house. It was late, I was pissed, and got a plumber out the next day. After telling me on the phone while I was at work that he had to jackhammer the driveway and the repair would cost $700, I told him not to do anything, I would come home. 25 miles on the road, he calls back and says "nevermind, I fixed it." It was screen in the regulator which I didn't know I had, totally clogged. Only $184 to clean it (wife says it took him 5 mins), what a deal!

JAG that same thing happened to the last house I lived in and it was under the drive way as well. They jackhammered the hell out of that driveway.

Sorry to hear about the boy, RC. My son had massive upper respiratory problems, until last year. Suddenly it just stopped. I keep expecting another infection or pneumonia to come, but it doesn't. I hope your little guy grows out of it soon.

Glad to hear you're getting your own nebulizer. Otherwise, you'd have to go to the ER (or doctor) everytime he has an attack.

My holiday's been crappy....Here is the chain of events for me, since we're all griping:

Before Thanksgiving, my youngest ends up in the ER for (like RC's kid) an asthma attack...we didn't know he even had asthma (which is how we found out he has the type thaht only hits when he has a respiratory infection, which he did). Got nebulized, did a bunch of doctor followups and medicines, and he's fine...

In the midst of all this, our rear driver tire had a FLAT! So, we took it to Costco, got that one replaced, and they advised us to replace the other 3 SOON...so we planned to change it after the new year. One had a nail, that they fixed, but because it was underinflated a while, it was starting to get cracks, and the front tires were also getting worn, hence the advice to change them out soon (we've had the van 3 1/2 years, so it was due anyway).....

So financially, we took a hit, so we were going to cancel our trip to NC.... but then I got extra work and we were back on track, and I even replaced the other rear tire. YAY

Not YAY apparently....just this week, I noticed the van was driving funny. But I shook it off because I was extremely busy. Then on Monday, the car wouldn't start! We left the inside lights on all of sunday! We jump started it, but cut off the engine too soon, and it wouldn't start back up, even with another jump. Frustrated, I thought I had to get another batter. My brother would come over later that night to check on it. THEN I found that my front passenger tire was FLAT!!!! It had a nail! AND a crack!! ARGH!! I was worried I had driven it saturday with a flat, and my rims might be damaged :( Then while putting on the spare, we noticed the brake pads need changing!! :( :( :(

My brother came over that night, and turns out the jumper cables weren't touching the battery enough, so we got it started, drove around, and it was fine. *sigh* So now, we were back on track, but not now. We cancelled our trip to NC, and today, I've taken my van to Costco to change out the other 2 tires. We will change out our own brake pads, so that'll save some $$.

It's not over yet, guys. :( With all the bad stuff this month, what else could go wrong? Well, this week, the day after my battery dying, my sis-in-law turns out has gallstones :( She had them removed with an endoscopy, and is still in the hospital. Today, she had her gall bladder removed. Hopefully she'll be fine to go home by x'mas. Is that it?

NO. Yesterday, my nephew (her son) had to go to the ER for fever and fainting!! He's had a fever, and was severely dehydrated, and had to be put on fluids. Is there more?

Yep. So the girl my sis-in-law's mother babysits for has LICE!!! They thought maybe my nephew gave it to her and her brother. And so we had to get my nephew checked out (which was fine, since because of his illness, he had to go to his doctor anyway). Luckily, no lice (I didn't think he would have lice because he has a buzz cut). This was today.

Guys, with all this crap that's happened, I have a silver lining to look forward to: Our 2010 HAS to be totally AWESOME!!!!!!! LOL

Yep week sucks... I have been really sick and missed 2 days of work (I seldom do). The kids are coming home this weekend for the holiday's and there room is A MESS we cleaned all weekend and were suppose to finish it up this week. Well being sick didn't help then I finally get back to work and my grandma gets taken to the ER via aid car with chest pain, they think the top part of her heart is not working right.... I spent all day yesterday in the er, another day off work. My mom found out today that she has shingles brought on by stress. Heather (my better half) has been unemployed since Nov 1 and STILL HAS not been approved for unemployment so we have been living off of my check witch is almost NOTHING... bills are stacking up Christmas is next week... We are fine for us but we are tying to come up with creative ideas for gifts for the kids... uggggg...

Hope your grandma is ok. Keep us updated on her.

As for money, dont let it get to you. It all about being together that really matters and something your cant put a price on (unlike presents). You'll figure something out. Im sure a lot of people here can come up with some creative gift ideas that would cost you nothing.:Cheers::Cheers:
