Slime on air stone

I found this slime on my wood air stone.
Could this be a contributor to elevated levels of nitrate

Not necessarily high nitrates, but higher organic matter. The stone is doing what a protein skimmer would do, and that's gather all the organic matter and proteins in the tank. You should also try running carbon, just in case it's slime/chemical warfare from your corals.
 
Yes, absolutely normal for the limewood to do that. Biocube requires you to replace limewood once a month. People tend to go with ones without airstones. Looks in need of replacment:D
