Red Mushroom Propogation

We have a lot of Red Mushroom Coral in our tank. I've put a pic below.

Lately four of the bigger ones went for a bit of a walk and left behind part of their feet. It looks on one of the left over bits of feet that there is now a new piece of mushroom growing out of it. Before they went on the walk the mushrooms were letting off bubbly looking discharge.

Is this how this type of coral breeds? I am struggling to get photos of the new bits as they are in hard to photograph parts of the tank, but the top of the feet have gone from the purple/white colour and are now showing the red tinge in the rest of the coral.

It looks like a few other pieces are now looking to move and split as well.

Mushrooms will move and leave peices behind that will grow into new mushrooms. They can also split and form two or more reletivley equal size mushrooms. The bubbley discharge might just be their :pooh: Corals are a simple animal where their mouth is used to both eat and expel waste

Might have to give some away soon, they are taking over the tank.

The bubbles are coming from the underside. They just lift up and let them out.

Pretty cool they are multiplying, but I will have to keep an eye on it or my tank will be overrun.

They could just be catching tiny bubbles in the water and eventually they just roll out. If you can, take the mushrooms to the LFS for store credit. Might not be much but something is better than nothing

Those are some good looking shrooms.
Bjs right.Thake some to your LFS and trade em.Every dime you can save in this hobby, just means more you can spend on other corals.:D

I really like the mushrooms so I will have to talk to the LFS to see Bout getting credit for some different colour mushrooms, just to mix it up a bit.

How do you go about getting the mushrooms off the rock?

It's been great to watch the separated feet sections start to develop colour and the form of a mushroom. A few others in the tank look like splitting as well now.

To get tem off the rock, take the rock, hang it upside down so the shrooms' stalks get longer. Use a clean, sharp razor blade to sever it at the stalk.

If you can't get the rock upside down, just use your two fingers to gently flank the shroom and cut under them.

You can also lay a smaller rock against the foot of the shroom. Then it'll eventually work its foot onto the smaller rock.
Takes a while longer, but it works.

You can also place the rock in a little less desirable location,i.e. Too much flow or too little light and it will detach on it's own to move to a better location.
