What's the proper way to read pH off of the chart? By holding the tube on the white paper background, or a few centimeters above it? I've noticed it changes the color fairly significantly?

i put it on the white of the card and look down through the tube to match colors, but your test kit should say how to read it

I hold the tube beside the chart in front of the window...holding it in front of the white part of the chart seems to darken the color.

this is the way I've done it in the past too...... looking thru the liquid seems like it would affect the color on the chart..... especially if the liquid is colored itself..... ( been so long since i've tested PH using a test kit though)

yeah, I've been going back to doing pH tests since my monitor seems to be completely off. I've calibrated it 3 times with cali fluid and it is nowhere near the 3 pH test kits I have. Kind of frustrating.
