just wondering if its a bad idea to put white quartz rock in my 30 gallon tank? It looks cool but
im worried about leeching or contamination. Does anyone know anything on this subject?

yeah it would look pretty but not saltwater safe i believe it is mainly silica based but the cloudiness is caused by manganese or iron.i looked into about 25 years ago so i'm a little rusty.my girl wanted crystal caves for the critters

From the web:
Quartz is relativley insoluble in salt water. Usually it's the impurities in it that cause the small release that there is. In general freshly mined rock or sand will leech more than stuff you can get at the beach, which has already leeched most of what it will. Aragonite does the same thing, but at 10% of that of quartz.
