Please help my scripps

overly obsessed
I got a scripps acro about a week ago and since then on the back hand side of it it got a little algae growing on it. The polyps on that side seem to be dead :(. I still have quite a few polystyrene on it open and alive.

I moved the acro and got the aglae off it. But what can ido to get rid of this algae??

I'm currently working on raising my mag. It's at 1300 and I'm bringing it to 1500. I have heard that will kill te algae. Is this true?

Is the Acro big enough that you can frag it?
If it is,then just frag off the part where the algaes at.If not, then you gotta keep it picked off.
From what I understand about high magnesium stopping algae. It only work works if your using the Kent Tech-M.Something thats in it that kills the algae.

oh okay well... im using the dow that people use in their swimming pools as its the same thing as Kent. not sure if its the kent tech-M though.

its even the same cas number as kent.

btw..sorry if my spelling is messed up sometimes. iPhones feel the need to "correct" words to what you "want". polyps = polystyrene?etc haha

HAHAH
I figured it was something like that.:D

I dont know if the Dow is exactly like the Tech-M or not.Maybe somebody that know more about chemicals will chime in.

well each and every chemical in existance has a certain case number. and they have the EXACT number. But its not the tech M because thats magnesium and i for some reason was thinking calcuim? its just kent-Turbo Calcuim that is the same as dow.

the dow is MUCH cheaper though. you can geta HUGE bottle of it for like $10 which is multiple times the amount you would get from Kent for more money.

im using Randy Holmes formula for magnesium. it seems so be working supurbly

Dow does not make a magnesium product, only calcium chloride. You may be thinking of MagFlake which is made by DeadSeaWorks. Peladow (by Dow) is the same as Kent TurboCalcium.

Supposedly there is some impurity in Kent Tech-M, which at high levels, kills some types of algae.

That's exactly what I was thinking cc. I made a recipe with the MgCl2 6H2O And Epsom salts this weekend. It's a little stronger than expected but still works well.

I did confuse CaCl2 with Dow above. My mistake. Good thing I mixed it right haha. Thad what matters.

I had been researching cheaper and just as effective ways to dose my tank lately so I'm giving it a shot.
