PhosGuard

So I ordered a huge bucket of this stuff off of Amazon should be here tomorrow. Anyone ever use the stuff? if so how well does it work? Im planning on putting this in my canister filter and doing 50% carbon 50% PhosGuard.. I have a MASSIVE spike of Diatoms and Cynobacteria going on and im tryin to finally get this outa my water. (had to use tap water for a while because my LFS stopped selling RO water). What kind of results can I see to my algea bloom and how long should I expect to see results?

I haven't used it in awhile, but my advise is to use a lil less than what the directions suggest. You don't want to use too much of it and strip your water too fast, because that will affect your corals. I think it also works better if it has a slight tumble vs carbon, that doesn't have to be tumbled. Other than that, it works pretty well and lowers phosphates very well.

Sounds good, I hope I see a difference in this damn slime/diatoms i've been having. Keeps ruining my tank, After its cleaned the tank is great... THAN HERE COMES THE BROWNS.. Typical of the browns, ruining everything... Ha.. Eat it Ohio!

My only advice is not to tumble it too fast - it breaks down very easily. I put some in a high flow area of my skimmer in a media bag and the next day my tank was white because the flow had ground it into powder.

What kind of water are you using? Is it good source RO/DI water? If the tank is established you shouldn't get the blooms of diatoms without an underlying problem....how much are you feeding? How often?

I dont feed that often once a day usually, I'm using spring water from the market because its the only option i have. Dont have the funds atm for an RO machine and my LFS doesnt sell it. I did recently change my sub from crushed coral to sand though. Did a few water tests and it looks okay. 0 ammonia 0 nitrite 5 nitrate 7.9ph
