My CUC is 4 different types of snails, peppermints, and a serpent star. No crabs. Does that make a difference?

No. I don't have any crabs. I just leave the molts in there. They disappear over night. (I have at least one peppermint shrimp and a cleaner).

I have left them in and also taken them out. Doesn't really matter.
