Question how do I tell if my sand is alive? can I make it alive again?

all live means is that it has a population of bacteria living on it that can break down wastes into less toxic chemicals, so if it have been siting in your tank for any length of time it will be live. But if it has dried out, then its dead. However, it can easily be made live again by putting it in your tank and properly cycling the tank, or you can put it into an established tank and it will become live in a few weeks time.
