Is it possible?

Realistically, is it possible to establish pods in my tank? I've been getting mixed info on this as I do with just about everything I try to research online. LFS said they could order a bottle for me and if I add them they will multiply, but is it really possible for them to multiply faster than they are getting ate by you livestock? I read about a net with rubble in it so they have somewhere safe, but then will they just all stay in there and never come out to get ate. The idea is for them to be food, but I want the reproduction to stay ahead of them getting ate.
I'm dreaming again of a Mandarin so that's why I'm asking. I have an orange stripe prawn goby on my stocking list for 2-3 months down the road and I was thinking maybe I could do a mandarin instead and if I start now I can establish pods. I know, ideally it would be best to get one that eats frozen and may take longer then a couple months before I add one especially with my nitrate problem, but just thinking ahead.

55 wont be enough if he doesnt eat frozen. They eat bottles and bottles of pods.... a day.

Having him eat frozen would be a must.

By placing them in a refugium they can have a safe haven to multiply, and miracle mud in a fuge will help them multiply alot. But as Kelz said a 55 gallon is far too small they eat bottles and bottles a day.

Thank you spongycrab for your totally useless advice so early in the morning.

You can create a "pod pile" like to described for the pods to go, and you can put a bottle of pods in the display. But it will still take a long time for the pods to become established. When you see them at night crawling around on everything, then you will know that your tank is pretty well established for pods. However, a mandarine very well could eat through an entire established tank in a few months, so I would try and get one that eats frozen regardless. Plus those are often captive breed fish which are better for the oceans anyways

Well, I might not always get the responses I was hoping to hear, but wow have my latest posts been entertaining. I almost sprayed my monitor with coffee LOL

Buy a mandarin that eats frozen. Problem solved. :) They are not hard to find. Go to your LFS, ask that they feed the mandarin, if it eats, then you are good to go. Then you don't have to worry about pods.

But like Hannah said, a "pod pile" is easy to make and can be effective.

I've heard of people covering a large pile of rubble in the DT w/ a basket that doesn't have holes large enough for fish to enter, but just sizable enough so that pods can crawl out. You can do that, and cover the basket with yet more rocks. But like fish said, it will still take a long time for them to properly grow in number.
