How can i vacuum a sand bed without vacuuming up all my sand?

You shouldn't be vacuuming a sand bed. You should have your cleaner crew do it for you -- like nassarius snails. There is a lot of good bacteria in the sand bed. You don't want to vacuum them out. The snails will keep your sand clean without destroying the bacteria.

Not to may people actually vacuum the sandbed in saltwater.You can stir it if it's shallow enough(less than 2''),then do a water change.

yeah, i havnt got my clean up crew for my 75 gal yet. ran a bit short on funding. Not to mention i just got engaged a couple of weeks ago so needless to say the tank isnt my top prority finacialy

I just hover my syphon a few inches above the sand. Low enough to get anything caught on top but high enough that if the sand does start floating up, it doesnt make it into the syphon
