Hello guys,

A friend of mine wanted me to ask you guys how he could clean his live rock? He wants to take them out of the tank and clean them really good because they are full of algae, you can't see the rock, it just looks like a big pile of green algae. Whats the best method to do this.

He could remove the rocks and place them in a large plastic tote or trash can with water saved from water changes. Place a powerhead inside and cover it so it is blacked out and check it once a week to see the progress. It should die within 3 months.

But of course the better solution would be to find out the cause of the problem and fix it there.

Like was already mentioned, you've got to find the cause of what really started the algae. But you've also got to get rid of algae before it can be effectively fought.
The method I've used,is to take the rock out one at a time and aggressively scrub the in with a NEW hard bristled tooth brush,in a bucket of water water the was removed from the tank during a water change.

Yep, a hard-bristled brush will do the trick. I prefer something larger than a toothbrush to start, and then you can use the toothbrush to get in the nooks and crannies.
