What is a fuge?

Its a refugium, either HOB(hang on back) or remote(goes in your sump) its usually has a deep sand bed, its a place to either grow pods or keep animals that wont do well in the display tank. A lot of people keeps Macro algae in them and run them on a reverse lighting schedule to keep PH swings and the like from happening. The macro use nitrates and phos to survive. The DSB aslo absorbs nitrates.
