Do digitate hydroids live in a tube like a feather duster or vermitid snail?

Yes, they have a tube-like stalk.

Damn. Okay, I have a group of digitate hydoids. And guess where? Smack dab in the middle of the skeleton of my pearl bubble coral. The part that is healthy and wasn't going to frag. If I break off the tube will that kill them? That is the only place I see them.

I have heard of people smothering them in kalk paste. But from what I hear, they are near impossible to kill unless you take the rock out.

Breaking off the tube won't kill them. Smothering them with kalk or superglue might work, but most of the time it comes down to having to boil the rock.

Only this isn't on a rock. It is on the skeleton of my large coral. And I won't kill the coral
